Ray Miller was the long time campground host at La Jolla Canyon parking area, and the trail was named in memory of him. He spent years taking care of the trail system throughout Point Mugu State Park, and after his passing the park system named the main trail heading up from the parking lot after him.
The Ray Miller 50k & 50 mile trail race course, presented by Keira Henninger Races, is one of the best Ultra Race courses in Southern California. Coupled with exceptional volunteers and fully stocked aid stations, this is a trail race that cannot be missed. While running, you’ll smell the Coastal Sage Scrub Community as you run throughout the scenic trails on this course. This community receives very little rainfall, so oils in the leaves help to retain moisture. It is these oils that make the community so fragrant. The dry Coastal Sage Scrub community is perfectly adapted for it’s ocean influenced landscape. The shaded canyon and valley floor benefit from seasonal streams and fog. The Ray Miller 50 Mile & 50k course is absolutely breathtaking! Expect some small stream crossings, maybe some early fog rolling up off the ocean and great single track trail running for this ultra race. Temps average this time of year in the low 60’s, but sometimes can be in the high 70’s. Stay after our trail race for the delicious taco feast, and swap war stories of your amazing day out on the trails.
With prize money for the top finishers in the 50 mile race, a great finish line feast, finisher medals & great race day shirts, the Ray Miller 50/50 is an ultra race trail race that should not be missed!
